The Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant in Saratov Oblast was built in 1981 and became operational in 1986.

1985 accidentEdit

A human error on the 27th of June 1985, by an inexperienced operator who was rushing resulted in a pressurizer relief valve being accidentally opened during the start-up, releasing 300°C steam into the staff work area, causing 14 people to die in he high temperature radioactive cloud.

It dose not officially have a INES ratting, but probably was a Level 4 INES Scale event.
