The Netherlands and Suriname signed the League of Nations' Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) treaty, in Washington D.C. in 1955. It was first interesting in saving pandas, conches, lithophaga lithophaga/date mussels and opihi (Oahu limpets) and their habitats.
