District of Columbia

The District of Columbia is the federal district of the United States.

It's current boundary is coterminus with that of Washington, D.C..

It was created so Washington, D.C. could be separate from all of the United States' states, territories, etc..

It was formed from parts of Maryland and Virginia, though the part that came from Virginia was given back.
