Prime Minister of Cuba 1959-1976; President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers from 1976. Gained power after revolution. Castro was elected President after 1976, but within a one-party Communist state.
Fidel Castro was born on August 13 1926, and lived to be 90 year old, dying in 2016. he was responsible for a revolution in Cuba, led by him and Che Guevara, to overthrow the Cuban Government and replace it with a Communist Government. Under his rule, he was responsible for the deaths of 15,000 to 18,000 people and led the country down a communist path for the second half of the 20th century and led to a massive crisis in 1962 known as the Cuban Missile Crisis, in which the Soviet Union placed Soviet nuclear arms in Cuba, which could reach all of the United States. This conflict ended with both US missiles out of Turkey and Soviet Missiles out of Cuba. After said Cuban Missile Crisis, he led the country for another 54 years until his death in 2016.
