György Gömöri (Born April 3, 1934, Budapest) Hungarian literary historian, poet, translator and university professor.
His parents were Lajos Gömöri and Rózsa Fehér. From 1953 to 1956 he was a student of the Hungarian-Polish ELTE BTK. In 1956 he became a member of the Petőfi Circle. From October 1956 he was the editor of the University Youth . He has lived abroad from November 1956. From 1957 to 1962 he studied at the University of Oxford. From 1963 to 1964 he was a Polish and Hungarian teacher at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1964 to 1965 he worked as a researcher at Harvard University. Between 1965 and 1969, at the East European research institute of the University of Birmingham in England, and between 1969 and 2001 Cambridge he taught Polish and Hungarian literature. From 1969 he was member of the editorial board of World Literature Today. Since 1970, he has been a member of Darwin College, retired since 2001. From 1971 to 2003 he was a member of the editorial board of Comparative Criticism. Between 1989 and 1990 he was an editorial member of the Transylvanian Museum . Since 1994 he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Vienna Journal. Since 2008 he has been the chair of the Rotary Literature Award Board.
In 1973 László Nagy and Attila József, in 1979 and 2003 Miklós Radnóti, in 1991 and 1999, György Petri, in 1996 and 1998, edited their own collections of poems written for Clive Wilmer.
