Imperialism is the act of passing a policy to extend a country's power and influence, by gaining territories and using military force.

Origins[]

Imperialism originates from the Latin word Imperium which converts to "Power" or "Rule". Mostly applied to the Western and Japanese political and economical dominance in the 19th and 20th century.

First Usage[]

The term is first used in the 1870's by opponents of the British for the allegedly aggressive and ostentatious imperial policies pushed by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli.
