István Horváth (Budapest, 18 June 1936 - Székesfehérvár, 26 January 1957) was a welder, 1956 revolutionary.
After primary school, he studied welding in Csepel, then worked at several jobs. In 1953, he was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of attempted illegal crossing.
He worked in Hatvan in 1956, but after the outbreak of the revolution, he traveled to Budapest on October 24th, to the parents of a deaf-faced Czech citizen. On the 25th, he went to find his brother. At the Grand Market Hall, he joined an armed group of acquaintances and attended a firefight near the HÉV station. In the afternoon, Csepel entered the National Guard, took part in demonstrations in Csepel and Soroksár, fought against the Soviet troops and members of the ÁVH.
After the fall of the Revolution, on November 17, he decided to escape to the West, but he got (wrong) news that Pál Maléter was still fighting in Bakony, so he started off with his associates to join them. On 12 December, the ÁVH holiday resort near Bakonybél was attacked to disarm the state defenses inside, but their actions did not succeed. In a couple of days, two financial guards were disarmed, and on December 22, a military unit captured and arrested the group. On January 10, 1957, the Budapest Military Court sentenced him to death in a statutory hearing on arms and ammunition and other acts. He was executed on January 26, 1957.
