Overview[]

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is one of the lowest countries in the world. About 27% of its area and 60% of its population is on reclaimed land below sea level. The population is 16,500,156 as of 2009. It is a wealthy, liberal democratic, constitutional monarchy in Western Europe.

It also has the dependent territories of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. Suriname, Indonesia and parts of coastal South Africa were once there colonies to. Those in S. Africa moved inland and became the Afrikaaners as the British took over the formally Dutch and Native African held costal regions.
