History[]
The Nazi's airfield had a 1,520 by 80 meters (4,990 by 260 ft) wooden (logs and\or planks) runway, which is an unusual runway surface. It was in Vestnes, located just west of the town center of Mandal. No Nazi squadrons ever used it, but some Norwegian Quizling aircraft did at times.
The struggling Kristiansand-based airline Sørfly proposed that it could use Mandal as a base for charter flights, but Mandal Municipal Council did not allow it. Sørfly operated from 1946 to 1962. It was based at Kristiansand Airport, Kjevik. It had a fleet of 3 Auster Autocrats, a Republic Seabee and a Miles Gemini.
It is now a Norwegian housing estate, which was built in the early 1950s and expanded some time in the 1960s.
