Overview[]

They are code names used by NATO forces for military equipment from Russia, China and the former Eastern Bloc. They are both unambiguous and easily understood English words that are set out a uniform manner to proved an alternative to the unknown or confusing native designations, nicknames and codenames.

  1. The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 had the NATO reporting name: Fagot.
  2. The Tupolev Tu-160 has the NATO reporting name: Blackjack.
