Nicolae Ceaușescu (pronounced: chew-SHES-koo; January 26, 1918 - December 25, 1989) was born as a peasant in Scorniceşti, and died on December 25, 1989 in Târgovişte - a Romanian communist politician. Secretary General of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965, President of Romanian holding dictatorial power from 1967 to 1989. He was overthrown and executed as a result of the Romanian Revolution (Romanian: Revoluția Română) in 1989.
He shared a cell with Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej in Târgu Jiu internment camp, becoming his political protégé.
Crimes[]
He and his wife, Elena Ceaușescu, were tried and convicted by an army courts martial of economic sabotage and genocide, sentenced to death, and immediately executed by firing squad on the 25th of December.
He is best known for:

- The shortages leading to heavy rationing of food, water, oil, heat, electricity, medicine and other necessities.
- Nepotism and corruption.
- An intense and sudden deterioration of foreign relations in the 1980s, even with the Soviet Union.
