A cult of personality arises when an individual uses mass media, monument building, propaganda, or other methods, to create an idealised, heroic, bold and at times worshipful, image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.

Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, Winston Churchill, Mobutu Sese Seko, Tony Blair, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Saparmurat Niyazov, Vladimir Putin, Josip Broz Tito, Ho Chi Minh, Adolf Hitler, North Korea's Kim family, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao and Mátyás Rákosi among others had one.
