At the time of it's launch it was the heaviest interplanetary spacecraft ever launched, weighing in at 6,200 kg! The small Mars lander it carried of the Hopper class, bounce across the Mars using it's spring loaded legs, drill in to the ground and analyse the soil. It malfunctioned in the 28th of August, 1988.
