The PzF 44 (also called Lanze, PzF 44 2A1, Leichte Panzerfaust, or Panzerfaust 2) is a recoilless anti-tank weapon. It was created as part of a plan for W. Germany to manufacture its own weapons in order to avoid the USA to provide the replacement for the aging and obsolete post WW2 American kit they were about to abandon. NATO knew that it was not strategically wise to make them 100% dependent on imported arms and believed the FRG could be trusted to make its own weapons by the mid 1960s.
