The Radpanzer 90 or Gepanzertes, geländegängiges Kampffahrzeug auf Rädern is a prototype 8-wheeled tank destroyer developed by West Germany from the end of 1983. Good performance of the armored wheeled vehicles in service with the Luchs Spähpanzer and Fuchs Transportpanzer (as well as the related positive experiences in other countries with similar vehicles, e.g. AMX-10 RC ) prompted the Ministry of Defense to ask Daimler-Benz in the early 1980s to commission the construction of an armored wheeled combat vehicle. It was intended to fit the role of a main battle tank, but with wheels instead of tracks weighing around 30 tons and not required to be amphibious.
The development and testing of the Chassis and Armor technology later was used to develop the new GTK Boxer Armored Personnel Carrier.
