The M14 is an American battle rifle developed in the late 1940s. The M14 replaced the M1 Garand in service with the U.S. Army in 1959. It was phased out of service in 1964 through 1965 to be replaced by the M16 assault rifle . The M14 was favoured heavily by the Army even after it was officially replaced, stating it was more effective due to its cartridge, and more reliable. The M16A1 had resolved many issues with the original model, but it still lacked the firepower soldiers preferred at the time.
