The Steyr AUG (A rmee-U niversal-G ewehrUniversal Army Rifle ) is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle developed in the 1970s.
The AUG entered service in the Austrian military with the name Sturmgewehr 77 (abbreviated StG 77 ). It was replaced by the AUG A1 shortly after, however it remained the same designation.
