Kalangala Beach, Lake Victoria, Uganda

Uganda (official name: the Republic of Uganda) is a country located in the eastern part of Africa. It shares its borders with Kenya, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The country derives its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala. Uganda covers an area of 236,040 km² and has population of 27,616,000 (2005). Despite Uganda being a landlocked country, it has access to large bodies of water including has access to several large water bodies, including Lake Victoria, Lake Albert, Lake Kyoga and Lake Edward. Most of the country is located on the East African plateau, averaging about 900 metres (2,950 ft) above sea level. The climate of Uganda is generally tropical, but some regions of the country has different climatic conditions. The country has some nice islands in Lake Victoria. Most important cities are the capital Kampala, and Entebbe.

Uganda is home to many ethnic groups and at least forty different languages are spoken in the country though the official language is English. Majority of the people are either Muslims or Christians.

Uganda has Many to offer. Though minor comparing to its neighbors - Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda is also a wonderful wildlife destination. Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park are the major attractions when it comes to wildlife. However, the country also hosts one of the largest lakes on Earth (Lake Victoria) and one of the longest rivers with its farthest origin (River Nile and Jinja). Kampala, the capital city, is so lively and offers many tourists spots near to it. Mpanga Reserve forest, Monyonyo Lake Resort, Mabira Reserve Forest, and many attractive beaches of Lake Victoria are a few among those attractions near Kampala.
