United Nations Security Council Resolution 179 was adopted on June 11, 1963. The UN was disturbed by the events of the North Yemen Civil War. It urged the rival parties directly concerned with the situation in Yemen to agree to disengage, which they did. The Governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Republic also agreed to pay the expenses for a UN observers mission over 2 months, to hold peace talks and report back to the Security Council in the near future.
