United Nations Security Council Resolution 425, adopted on March 19, 1978, five days after Israel's invasion of Lebanon (Operation Litani.). It called on Israel to withdraw immediately its forces from Lebanon and established the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL). It called for peace between Israel and Lebanon. Operation Litani was planned out as a way to clear the PLO out bases located inside Lebanon, south of the Litani River, io improve the security of northern Israel.
