Overview[]

The United States of America (AKA: The United States, The States, US, USA or America) is the dominant country on the North American continent. It was the competitor of the Soviet Union in the Cold War, and is generally considered the victor in the struggle, along with it's allies in NATO and the EU.

America is one of the largest countries in the world. It's a federal republic consisting of 50 states, 48 of which are contiguous and a capital federal district. It also holds 5 territories in remote areas of the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea.

It is one of the world's most economically and politically influential countries and most topographically, meteorologically, ethnically and culturally diverse nation. It has self liberties and great vacation destinations, such as L.A, New York, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and many other cities.

Exploring United States of America[]

Driving around the US is a popular way to explore the country. Not only is driving a relatively cheap way to get around, but it also allows visitors to see the beautiful countryside. Most rental car companies will require you to be least 25 years of age, although younger people might be able to rent cars at slightly higher rates and with some insurance differences. A national driver's license is usually enough, but an additional international one is recommended.

To help you get around by car, gas stations usually sell regional and national maps, although many drivers choose to get driving directions on their home computers prior to their journeys; MapQuest and Google Maps are popular websites for obtaining directions. Drivers can get directions in the midst of their travels by calling 1-800-Free411, which will provide text message directions, or they can stop and ask locals for nearby directions. Americans are usually happy to give directions to travelers.
