Vietnamese refugees on US carrier, Operation Frequent Wind

South Vietnamese refugees walk across a U.S. Navy vessel. Operation Frequent Wind, the final operation in Saigon, began April 29, 1975. The Navy vessels brought them, under heavy fire, to the Philippines and eventually to Camp Pendleton, Calif.

.

The phenomena

Some south Vietnamese, especially adolescent women, that were evacuated to Israel. They always wore heavy knitwear for several months afterwards, until they had got acclimatised.

The reason

It was caused by the major temperature and humidity differences between S. Vietnam and Israel.

  • Temperatures are ~25%-50%. less in Nasareth. Humidiaty is ~20%-50% less in Nazareth. Rain fall is ~25%-66% less in Nazareth. The number of rainy days is ~100%-50% less in Nazareth. Sunshine is ~25% more in Nazareth. With the exception of sunshine, it is a climatic drop like that between summer and winter, hence the knitware. Most of them wore cardigans, not jumpers, since that was the global femmanin fashion trend at the time.

This did not happen in Manila and Bataan since it was much more like S. Vietnam's climate.

  • Tempritures are ~10% less in Manila. Humidiaty is ~20% less in Manila. Rain fall is 20% more in Manila. The number of rainy days is the same in Manila. Sunshine is 10% less in Manila.
